Jenny Liz Rome is a Canadian visual artist, who creates an exciting genre of art which she calls a ’sort of fantasy portraiture’. Jenny’s portraits are modern illustrations, fusing digital and traditional mediums, sometimes including abstract marks.
She creates portraits of the female form in a unique and engaging style. Her work looks like hand illustration, but Jenny’s workflow begins with collating found images with her own photography. She creates a whole new person by using different body parts taken from photos, almost like a collage. It is only when the subjects form is complete that she begins to illustrate and paint on the image.
In almost all of my work, you’re not looking at one woman who actually exists. I make each girl with fragments of bodies and portraits. Working that way gives me the freedom to create an entirely new human being and body shape. In any given image, you may be looking at the parts of 3-5 different people. I focus mainly on the female form because it’s the perfect canvas. Via Live Fast Magazine
Her work has been featured in Marie Claire Magazine, The Block television series (Australia), as well as an album cover for the Canadian band, Walk Off The Earth.
You may remember Jenny’s work from last week’s featured artist Ruben Ireland. The image below, ‘Marianna’ is a collaboration between Jenny Liz Rome & Ruben Ireland.
