Kevin was a portrait photographer working for a stock photo agency when he began taking day trips from his home in Portland, Oregon to places he had never seen before.
These day trips soon became weeks, until eventually in 2011 Russ was leaving his work and photographic equipment behind, and heading off on a two-year road trip to explore the American wilderness and live out of his car. He left his photographic equipment behind only taking his iPhone.
Kevin felt inspired by photographers of the past that depicted nature as it was, creating real images that don’t blur out the background and landscape photographers who shoot all day long, not only at golden hour. Capturing his images purely with his iPhone camera forced Russ to consider the whole picture, and not just focus on the subject, the result is images that are beautiful, genuine and timeless.
