Chad Wys is a multidisciplinary artist. His website says he is a visual artist, designer and writer. After getting caught up looking at his inspiring work for the last couple of hours, I think Chad Wys is a whole lot more than that.
When I look at art I love, I feel it deep in my core. It is a feeling difficult to understand, to describe, and one I get from nothing else. Looking at the work below definitely creates the ‘feeling’ I am referring to.
Wys says he has a fascination with art, in particular, art history. He re-contextualises ready-made art objects including sculptures and paintings found in thrift stores.
Wys used to resent contemporary art. It took a professor in a contemporary art class to tear down those barriers for him.
Postmodernism is difficult to interpret and understand, but in my opinion, that is the point of it. Chad’s education and interest in all art forms are plainly visible when viewing his work. I believe it is this juxtaposition that adds so much interest to his works.
Chad Wys leaves the interpretation of his art up to the viewer.
Despite everything, and true to my postmodern roots, in the end as in the beginning I leave the activity, reception, and understanding of my work entirely in the viewer’s hands. It is meant to mean different things to different people who are at different stages of understanding. Chad Wys, 2014
